"Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game

Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
These precious days I'll spend with you"
Mary White has a perfectly nice life. Suburban stay-at-home mother to a one-year-old daughter, handsome husband, house in a sought-after zip code. (Sigh.) She hates herself for wanting more. For seeing her days as a blur of washing dishes, doing laundry, and driving her daughter around trying to get her to sleep. Mix this with indecision (which sunscreen to use?!), diagnosing herself with diseases off the Internet (her exhaustion can’t be normal, it must be Lyme) and over-thinking any muttered complaint in fear it would label her the greatest blasphemy in the cosmic universe, “ungrateful,” Mary White feels stuck in her life. She is the wife, mother, daughter fated to take care of everyone and pick up the dry-cleaning for eternity. That is until she wakes groggy in a hospital bed with no memory of what happened. A nice nurse insists she’s okay, but fears that she isn't. Not only that, she can't shake the panicked feeling whatever happened is her fault...

A year before Mary began mistakenly receiving emails for another woman of the same name. Mary White. Or “Fancy Mary,” as she came to call her, a woman who took amazing vacations, got honored by charities, this other Mary even traveled by private plane. Did her fascination with Fancy Mary’s world, particularly what she believed was an extramarital relationship, have something to do with the accident? If only she could stay awake to remember. She falls back asleep, and in her state replays a year’s worth of days leading up to that waking moment. . .

Join Mary as she explores the power of moments and learns there are many ways and types of days that can define a good life.

Inspired by “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” for fans of Where’d You Go Bernadette? and Want: A Novel, These Precious Days brings a sharp new voice that will make you laugh, think, and explore the complexities of modern marriage and motherhood.
